I have several questions regarding finance and world economics. How can a certain country set its own money price? How is the exchange rate calculated. For instance 1 euro = 2 us dollar approximately right now. In some other countries it is 1000 local currency = 1 dollar. How is this set and how, and most importantly why does these exchange rates fluctuate? What makes these ratio fluctuate. Another question is, if a country is in some kind of debt or went to the minus, how come they couldn't just print whatever their local currency is? They own the money, but how come they are always scared of deficit, going to the minus and other scary talk. In my opinion if they own that money, they are not in debt to anyone. They can print that money right? It just totally doesn't make sense to me. Why other countries buys the "bond" of another country to basically "bail them out" according to politicians. If they own that money, they print that money, they can do whatever they want, right? Who is controlling all these exchange rates, deficit, bonds, "going to the red" talk. This question is pure finance question and not politics. Please answer from pure financial and economic terms. How does all this work? Please help. moreResolved Question: Just a few questions about "Palestine"?

In economics, inflation is a rise in the general level of prices of goods and services in an economy over a period of time.[1] When the general price level rises, each unit of the functional currency buys fewer goods and services; consequently, inflation is a decline in the real value of money—a loss of purchasing power in the internal medium of exchange which is also the monetary unit of account in an economy.[2] A chief measure of general price-level inflation is the general inflation rate, which is the percentage change in a general price index (normally the Consumer Price Index) over time.[3] Inflation can have adverse effects on an economy. For example, uncertainty about future inflation may discourage investment and saving. High inflation may lead to shortages of goods if consumers begin hoarding out of concern that prices will increase in the future. Economists generally agree that high rates of inflation and hyperinflation are caused by an excessive growth of the money supply.[4] Views on which factors determine low to moderate rates of inflation are more varied. Low or moderate inflation may be attributed to fluctuations in real demand for goods and services, or changes in available supplies such as during scarcities, as well as to growth in the money supply. However, the consensus view is that a long sustained period of inflation is caused by money supply growing faster than the rate of economic growth moreResolved Question: How could we get an inflation in a currency that is already pegged to another one like dollar (fixed rate)?

From West to East: A Transition of Power? It has been a long roller coaster ride for the world to take the path for economic recovery. Economists can't even tell a concrete duration when will the crisis ends. For past weeks, as the stock markets start to bounce back, currencies devalue the safe havens, US dollar and Japanese Yen, road to recovery is a common sentiment for all. Demand for commodities helps top exporting countries of commodities to gain back their losses. According to Bloomberg Television, it was on March 9, 2009 when the WORST day for the world economy reaches decade lows as plenty companies shut down their factories and plants to reduce expenses, this result to millions of people are losing their jobs around the world. "Developed World" is the undeniably the roots of this global fiasco, when the real state business in Wall Street headed to ground followed by the collapse of the Lehman Brothers in England in September 2008. It is a chain reaction, financial giants struggles which cause incipient countries to be affected. On the side of the eastern part of the globe, which most are still "DEVELOPING" , are also battered by this global economic downturn, however, it can be noted that there is at least lesser effect on them, except for Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore, - which until now is suffering from massive losses. There are speculations on the “transition of power” giving the throne to Asia. The idea starts when CHINA shows a rapid growth in their economy which is about 12.5%, compared to the western power which is 0 to 5% only. This gives analysts to project the world ranking by at least 20-50 years from now. If you do arithmetic, it shows that China will overcome today's economic giant -United States- which for now is almost three times larger than its runner up. -Japan. However, since the crisis began, developed countries experienced a negative growth, and a slowdown for emerging countries. There are two ways in computing the GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT (GDP), which made a long argument among economists, traders and analysts. 1. NOMINAL 2. PPP (purchasing power parity) However, nominal is the most commonly used for economists to make the ranking. The latter however is use in more technical comparison, since it includes the inflation rate, currency exchange and other vital information. For 2008, The ranking for the World's Top 15 LARGEST ECONOMY (GDP nominal) 1. United States 2. Japan 3. China 4. Germany 5. France 6. United Kingdom 7. Italy 8. Russia 9. Spain 10. Brazil 11. Canada 12. India 13. Mexico 14. Australia 15. South Korea We all know that GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is the sum of all goods, trades, products, investments, revenues of a country in a given time. It can be quarterly or annually. Above ranking is for year 2008. To determine the world's WEALTHIEST country, which I believe one of the standards to become "DEVELOPED COUNTRY" GDP will be divided by the total population. So for above the countries GDP 2008 will be divided by their total population on 2008(not only those who are in the workforce). The quotient will be their GDP per Capita. The quotient will then be assessed. If I am not mistaken, at least 25,000 should me met. Other standards include infrastructures, poverty rate, unemployment rate, political stability, well-regarded university, literacy rate, crime level, occurrence of natural disaster, sanitation and the likes. Comparison: Which do you think is wealthier? A country with total output of $1,000,000 with 1,000,000 people? Or a country with an output of $5,000 with 100 people? THAT'S IT! On recent news, however, China is regarded to save the world by years to come. While China is the 3rd largest economy in the world up-to-date, (surpassed Germany in late 2008), China remains a developing country, with low GDP per capita, high level of violation, and percentage of the population living below the poverty line. Outside Shanghai (its financial capital) and Beijing (country's capital) people are poor with lesser civilization. With its huge population, the country is one of the most densely populated that makes social issue beyond its border, and other contemporary issues towards its government, people, etc. (Ex. Bird Flu, and the Contamination of Milk) Hong Kong is an autonomous region of China. Trivia: China is one of the 1st or 2nd most populous countries in the world with at least 1.1 billion people making MANDARIN as the world's most spoken language than any ANGLOPHONE countries combined. (U.S, U.K, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Philippines etc.). However, English remains to be the supreme language of intellect, making English to be the international language, especially for business, spoken even by Chinese. But it’s rare to see American or British to speak Mandarin, isn't it? However, since i fall in love with Canada and the U.K., i shifted to Canadian Dollar "loonie" and British Pound Sterling. Until this financial crisis battered and devaluate my pesos. I don't wanna lose my bills, but I'm in doubt because of the declining value of those currencies. About a year a go... 1 pound is 94 pesos; now it is 71.5; and it reached as low as 64!!! for the loonie, they are almost the same with value the USD, with little centavos difference (when converted to pesos) and it reached one time that Canadian dollar surges and worth a little with the USD. Last year it is 1 LOONIE is 44.60 pesos now it is 40.14 and it bottom upto 36.10 for the past few months. I KNOW that loonie is a commodity currency, and it depends on the price of gold, silver, copper and of course OIL! how about the british pounds? aside from the foreign trade of Britain of pounds, where? in the financial sector of the banks? If i were you, what we'll you do? Last year, i do not mind the little changes because of the very little fluctuation. Only now that i realized that even 0.0001 fluctuation in the currency rate affects much on the value. Especially when it deals with larger quantity of foreign currency.. for now, i have Canadian: $200 and 100 pounds. do i need to stop this, shift to other currency? or what? i am in a long term speculation, since this is my savings. please enlighten me... as of now, i have $200; (Canadian dollar) £100; (U.K. Pound) moreResolved Question: microeconomics anyone?

Found some info couldnt hurt to take a look?
I had heard of this guy but i didnt think too much of it but heres a little of what I found. Survived the Holocaust as a Hungarian Jew, started out as an analyst an made alot of money using a philosophy of "reflexivity" based on Karl Poppers (a socialist). well he ended up making alot of money.....but this bothers me On Black Wednesday (September 16, 1992), Soros became immediately famous when he sold short more than $10 billion worth of pounds, profiting from the Bank of England's reluctance to either raise its interest rates to levels comparable to those of other European Exchange Rate Mechanism countries or to float its currency. Finally, the Bank of England was forced to withdraw the currency from the European Exchange Rate Mechanism and to devalue the pound sterling, and Soros earned an estimated US$ 1.1 billion in the process. He was dubbed "the man who broke the Bank of England." In 1997, during the Asian financial crisis, then Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad accused Soros of using the wealth under his control to punish ASEAN for welcoming Myanmar as a member. He was also convicted of insider trading in France in 2002. he gave 527 different groups over 23million dollars in an attempt to defeat Bush in the 2004 election. The Foundation for the Defense of Democracies reports the case of a former Georgian parliamentarian who alleges that in the three months prior to the Rose Revolution, "Soros spent $42 million ramping-up for the overthrow of Shevardnadze. Shevardnadze had by most accounts won the 2003 election fairly but was ousted in 2004 due to the Rose Revolution in Georgia(the Country). In 2006, MoveOn and the Center for American Progress waged a campaign against Cheney’s Halliburton. Halliburton’s stock dropped from $40 to $26 a share. While MoveOn railed against Halliburton, Soros gradually bought 1,999,450 shares. By December 2006, these shares comprised more than 2% of his total portfolio, making Halliburton the Soros Fund Management’s biggest investment that year. Then, the attacks on Halliburton stopped, and the stock value began climbing, climbing all the way up to today’s $50/ share. He founded a group called the democratic alliance which heavily funded Moveon.org and ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) Who played major roles in running campaign ads. So my point is How did a relativily unknown 1st term U.S. Senator from Chicago somehow became President in 4 years with very little actual experience? i cant help but feel we were somehow bought off.... The thing that bothers me the most is by many accounts he was the largest and one of the first supporters of Obama but it makes no mention of it in his wikipedia page Im not stressing this on Obama but George Soros and his money have bought alot of influence and I think thats wrong. When you spend alot of money to remove a head of state in a foreign country i think it sets a very dangerous tone. Not to mention what he did to the bank of England, what if he had done this to an American bank? Im not trying to stress a right wing conspiracy but i think George Soros money is clearly buying power. moreResolved Question: In your opinion, how long till I could expect the American dollar to be double that of the British Pound?
