Jeeps For Sale From Questions and Answers

Resolved Question: What type of seat does my Wrangler have (pic)?

Right now on www.4wd.com they are having a sale where you can buy smittybilt front seat covers and get the matching rear seat cover for free.. that's a savings of $100! I have been needing covers for a while so I don't want to pass this up if it applies to me! The problem is that when I am looking at all of the different seat covers it looks like there are several different kinds of seats and I don't know which exactly my Wrangler has. I have a 1998 Sport model, the seats are the stock seats that came in it. Here is a picture of the front seats http://s639.photobucket.com/albums/uu116/dasfrettchen/1998%20Jeep%20Wrangler%20Sport/?action=view&current=HPIM5533.jpg Now here is a link to the seat covers that are on special, that I would like to get. http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?groupID=535 Are those the right covers? They look too short on the top to be right in my opinion. Just going by looks it seems that these would be right.. http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?jeep-sid=475&plID=1176&partID=4085 But even those seem different from what my seats look like.. I'm so confused!!!  more

Open Question: I put $4,000 down on a Jeep Wrangler. I want to trade it in but don't want to part with any more cash.?

I put $4,000 down on a Jeep Wrangler. The entire sale with taxes, tags, etc. was $17,160. I want to trade this Jeep in as soon as possible. I do not want to put down any more cash for this deal, since I already parted with $4000. What price car can I get? Also, can someone please explain to me how this process works? Very new to this car stuff... Another thing is, I just bought the car three days ago. I HATE it, but I don't think that the car dealer from which I bought it will let me return it and get my money back.  more

Resolved Question: So where are all those huge 40% off car sales? (GM, Chrysler, Ford) I can't find any...?

I'm not from the US but I've read a lot of articles about American dealers selling for instance new Jeep Commanders for $12k, so I thought it could be a good moment to buy a car. However, when I started searching, I've seen used cars for even more than the articles in my country claimed. Do you know where I can buy cars at such great prices or were the journalits just lying?  more

Resolved Question: Neighbor problem - help us figure it out?

We have this single guy next door who gives us the creeps. Please help us figure out what is going on. People stop by his house all the time, coming in for just a few minutes and then walking out with a magazine or some package. He has a group of people living at his house all the time. None of them ever leave the house. Yet, it is quiet there. He hasn't taken down his Christmas tree yet. He knocked on our door at 10:30 at night to say he'd brought popsicles for our kids. He bought a badminton set for our kids then angrily came over two weeks later to take it back from us. He hit my jeep parked in front of my house when he was backing out. He did not have insurance and was driving on a suspended license! He lied to the police and got off scot free. He has ignored the collection agency my insurance company has sent to get my $500 deductible back. He is also unemployed. He has had two cars repossessed recently. He had a for sale by owner sign in his front yard for ONE DAY and then removed it. I am wondering if he is a bookie. I got a magazine in the mail once by mistake. It was supposed to be delivered to him. It was all about sports betting. Yes, I know I know. It's none of my business. But you know, it IS my business when I think the safety of my family might be in question. So...what do YOU think is going on? I have not a clue. Furthermore, should I go to the police? And what should I say if I do? Thanks  more

Resolved Question: Anybody done anything worst than this?

and might make me feel better? I bought a car last year for $7000. I had severe depression a couple of months ago and decided to trade-in my car for a Jeep Libery for $10000. I only got about $3000 back for the car, so I lost about $4000 right there, then another $1000 for sales tax. Plus the jeep is a gas guzzler, car insurance went up by $70 per month and I'm assuming that repairs will cost more money. I was very happy at first, now I regret it. I was already treated for depression so it's not as severe right now, I just get down whenever I think about how stupid the whole thing was..  more

Resolved Question: Help! My friend is a victim of internet fraud!!?

Well, one of my best friends found a Jeep Wrangler on craigslist that she was interested in so she emailed the seller and he replied saying that he was due to leave for Iraq on June 5 so he wanted to do the sale through a third party such as ebay motors. He gave her a name of another individual who was supposedly with ebay motors and she was to money gram $2800.00 to this man at "ebay motors" at which time her vehicle would be shipped and she would money gram the remaining $2800.00 to the same man at "ebay motors". Needless to say she never got her car and now the seller is not emailing her back... He refused to give her a phone number to reach him at so everything is through email. I know this is her own fault because she should have been more careful... but does anyone have any ideas of what to do to try to catch this criminal and get her money back? She contacted local police but where we live (a town of about 1000) the local police are not really equipped to deal with this. Also, she gave the guy her full name address and phone number. She could be in danger herself (let's hope not though!). Should she contact the FBI? How? Thanks for any time and any help at all! I realize it is her fault.. I said this already. I don't know how she missed the warnings. And just to clarify... no, definitely not rich yuppies. She spent all of her savings on that deposit. Her parents wouldn't help her at all. And she is out ALL that money. Thanks to others that actually have some suggestions!  more

Resolved Question: Folding knife disassembly tool?

I just bought a Jeep knife (JP-1024). Half smooth/half serrated, seat belt cutter, glass breaker, rubber grips on the handle. Great little pocket knife, plus I got it on sale for a decent cost. Problem though: It has an unusual type of screw head that holds the blade to the shaft. The top of the screw has 5 unconnected points (indentations) in a circular pattern. I've never seen a screw of this type. I like to do my own maintenance on my knives/tools. What tool do I need to disassemble this knife?  more

Resolved Question: Legal "Bait and Switch" New Car Sales?

We are looking at a new Jeep Wrangler X. We called about an online ad and were assured they had it. Drove 40 miles, not there, but one about 5k more and so much better could be obtained. Today we were at the lake and they called again, promising us a 08 Jeep that was new with a bit better options than another dealer offered. They "preapproved" us based on the app we filled out the night before. When we got down there no one knew what we were talking about, and finally the sales manager became very rude and told us to leave his dealership. Some of the other issues: Would only give 3k for a 12k truck and wanted to finance in $4k in "negative equity" that does not exist. Would not approve a 652 established credit score with a DTI of $500 to $1400. Took the keys to our current trade in vehicle and would not give them back until we became verbally forceful. My wife is very upset about this and was berated so badly by the sales manager that she began to cry and ended up tearing a stitch on her stomach from gallbladder surgery a little over a week ago. I am at a complete loss, as our family did hear the offers made over the phone. Any advice? We live in Oklahoma as well. Voting Question: how do i get my money back from a used car sale from a dealership?

yesterday i went out and bought a used 07 mazda 3 s touring from chrysler jeep dodge at bellevue. i walked in tall thinking i had done my research. i walked out the door by paying $15,634.38, a little less than their asking price. this may sound all good but... i brought my old 97 toyota camry in as a trade in, kelley bluebook offered $1,800 for my reliable little camry. CJD at bellevue offered me $500. can you say offended? jeez louise!! so i talked them up on my car and got the final out the door price as $15,634.38. After the sale i immediately went to dinner with my family. when we finally got home i realized i still had my key to the camry, we went inside and i called them and said i would bring it in first thing this morning. i then got online and looked at their website more, ONLY TO FIND that my little mazda 3 s touring on THEIR website was selling for $13,993!!!!! i iwas scamed out of two grand!!! i quickly went to my car and read the sales contract, i can only get out of it if they broke the law. so my question is did they break washignton state law? please answer!! i have to be there soon to gived them my key to the camry trade-in!!!  more

Resolved Question: jeep intermitten starting and stalling problem?

Hi all, My friend has a jeep cherokee larado 4.0l engine 4 w drive larado 1999. The jeep now has some intermitten starting problems.( no check engine light comes on/no obd codes show up).It will fire up great 9 times out of 10..the 10th time the engine will try to turn over/fan will turn/motor will shake etc. I let it cool and then eventually it fires right back up multiple times in a row??? Like a champ..no hesititation..no pregnant pause..no chattering Now some would say that it is a starter problem. But the car also has some intermitten stalling problems as well......but let me go on. I drove the car up the interstate 88 mph..no hesitation..no dragging..lots of power...transmition changed up smoothly. My friend called me up and said the car won't start??? the same jeep I had up the highway the other day.. It eventually starter and we drove it home. I put brand new spark plugs in the jeep that night. Battery read at 12.6 at rest..13.7 while running. My friends' wife took the jeep to a yard sale..it started up fine but then she put it in reverse and gave it some gas..the car stalled?? The car wouldn't start back up again. I came over like 10 minutes later..told her not to keep cranking on that starter. It cooled and immediately started..she made it home like 3 miles away without any problems? okay what could it be..one minute it drives fine..one minute it starts great 9 times in a row..another time it won't start and another will stall while driving. Then I still can take the jeep up the road and do 70mph in it without any problems?? so am I not getting fuel..spark? what would cause the non starts AND stalling?.. something broken inside? then why could I drive the hell out the jeep the next minute later? He normally keeps like 1/4 in jeep..hard on fuel pump but no noticeable noise/strain pump noise..fuel pump relay buzzes/comes on line Funny how originally the jeep wouldn't start in the garage..let it sit overnight and it started right up the next day..nothing was touched.. so I don't think it is broken wiring in like the circuit Could it be bad gas? vapor lock problem?  more

Resolved Question: I have a Jeep, now that Chrysler is going bankrupt, what will happen?

Resolved Question: Do I have a good case against the seller of my car?

I bought a used Jeep from a private seller about a month ago. Before buying it I took it to a local mechanic I heard was very good to check it out. He said everything looked good, but that it would need a new catalytic converter before it got inspected. He failed to mention that the seller is responsible to pay for anything the car needs done to pass inspection. My NEW mechanic said that it was probably because if the seller did pay for it, he would take it to a different mechanic and he would lose business. Anyways, three days after the sale was finalized the car started to stall out repeatedly for no apparent reason. I took it to a different mechanic and he said that the computer in the car was very damaged. There are hammer marks on it showing that the seller had been "tapping" the computer so the car would start up. When I confronted the seller about this he acted completely oblivious. The mechanic sent the computer out to get repaired. I just heard from him today and he said that for the first time in his 34 years of being a mechanic, the computer couldn't be repaired. It was too damaged. So I have to buy a brand new one. My old mechanic also never managed the computer being damaged. I bought the car for $2,800 and I have spent nearly $1,300 in repairs. The seller refused to help pay for any of these repairs. I want to take him to court, but I'm not sure how strong of a case I have. I have a paper trail of my whole story as well. I want him to pay for the catalytic converter and the new computer. What are my chances?  more

I'm fuming right now but I'll try to make this as short and simple as possible: -I wanted to buy a Hyundai because of the 5 year bumber to bumper warranty. -A friend suggested that ANY new car could be extended to 5 years, just use that as part of the negotiation. -We went to Chrysler and used the warranty as our negotiated point for a newsed Jeep. -We paid the asking price, under the condition that we got a 60k mile extended bumber to bumber because we knew the Cherokee would be unreliable. -They agreed and gave us the warranty. -There was no documentation on an websites or any documentation on the specifics of the warrranty. Chrysler themselves told me the terms. -The sales people, the finance person all said it was a FULL bumber to bumber warranty. -Finance person "what you have is FULL warranty. Absolutely everythning is covered under the Gold extended warranty. There's nothing left to sell you" -Yesterday at another Chrysler daeler for warranty work "the warranty you have is Gold 120k, but it's a 952 code which means drivetrain only" So basically 6 months has passed and now I find I got screwed by another Chysler dealer. I have no warranty agreement, no details of the warranty, there no website that lists the warranty terms. All I had was a Chrysler dealer telling me that were were getting full bumber to bumber. They had a laminated chart showing the different plans but that's it. I verified over and over again that it was the FULL bumber to bumber warranty. Wen't into details about power windows, etc. etc. Now I basically find I have another year left of full coverage and don't know what my legal recourses are. I'm willing to take this to small claims court but don't want to persue it if I wont win. I live in Canada and judges here typically defend the guilty so our judges lean to that direction. What do you guys recommend? I did not recieve any warranty fine print or anything along those lines. I have no warranty documents or anything that goes into the specifics of the warranty. I do have a whitness (my wife) that was with me when we bought the Jeep. 90% of our discussions where about what the warranty covered and what I did not. We're not imagining this trust me. We were told we were buying a full bumper to bumper warranty (excluding wear and tear of course)  more

Resolved Question: Question for mechanics or knowledgeable Jeep owners about a 2004 Jeep Wrangler w/ lift kit?

I am looking at a used 2004 Jeep Wrangler Sport as an extra "fun" vehicle. I have nowhere near the knowledge of a mechanic. It has a lift kit and the sales person/mechanic at the dealership told me that one of the rear suspension things is locked up. They don't intend on fixing it..it's 'as is'. Question is: can it be fixed? Is it ridiculously expensive to fix? Should I even care if it is fixed? If it isn't fixed, will it cause further problems? They only want 12,000-ish for it, so I was thinking something must be wrong with it. Anyone have any constructive input without being able to see it in person? Resolved Question: Very low price for vehicle? Scam?

I've been researching prices for a used, small SUV for months now. Ford Escape, Jeep Liberty, Kia Sportage, etc. I came across one today online....I think it was on buy & sell.com. Anyway.... the price he was advertising for one was at LEAST 6/7 grand below what they go for. Its only 3 years old, low miles...great shape. So thinking there has to be a catch...I emailed the seller & got a quick response. Basically a long story of how he is out of the country, can't register the vehicle wherever he is, going through a divorce....basically wants to sell FAST. So I asked to see it & the response I got after that was that how it would work....is I'd make a deposit in a "moneybookers" managed trust account until I actually get the vehicle, title, bill of sale, etc. I'd then have 14 days to get an inspection, etc...decide if I want it. He would not get the money until I got the vehicle. Then...assuming I keep the vehicle....I confirm to moneybookers the sale....& send the remaining amount. The deposit amount is refundable & a security measure...so he isn't wasting time. So...too good to be true? Sure sounds like it...but I thought I'd ask. Never heard of anything like this. I figured it was a scam....obviously. I dont think I was being secretive either...I did say buy & sell .com?? This wasn't craigslist, by the way... I had emailed a ton of people today...& of course another practically brand new one...I just got a similiar story. This time the guy is an Air Force Sgt. in the UK...same thing, can't register there... I guess I know now! Today was the first time I actually emailed anyone or responded to any ads.  more

Resolved Question: What should I pay for a used 2006 Jeep Commander?

I found a Jeep Commander on a local lot for $16,949. It's a V6 3.7L AWD with 34,151mi. I cannot say that it's not in excellent condition, but we all know how nice some detailing can make a used car look. There are some minor scratches that I know I can buff out, but I would never admit that to the salesman, lol. The general sales manager is trying to screw us by showing us a blue book for a 2006 Jeep Commander Limited, NOT just a regular 2006 Jeep Commander. I have all of the correct paper work on the vehicle now with a carfax (which checked out clean). The Kelly Blue Book quotes retail in excellent condition at 17,500. I know these guys are screwing around with me, but I'm a pretty informed guy. What do you think I should be paying for this mid-class SUV? I'm trying to get the guy to around 15,000 (which for 2 straight hours they swore up and down they couldn't do. Although somehow they swear they can "finnagle" the interest rate on the financing (My mother is signing on it with me, she has amazing credit.) I want this one, I can't find it in the same color on any other lot around here. I already did a test drive and ran it through it's paces. Everything on that end checks out. I just really want to know if I can do better on the price.  more

Resolved Question: I sold a 1976 Jeep through Ebay, buyer says it threw a rod after 5 miles. Am I responsible for repairs?

I advertised that it runs beautifully (for a 33 year old car) and that I don't know much about the history. I had the alternator replaced less than 200 miles ago by a Jeep-only mechanic, and he checked EVERYTHING before letting me leave with it, it truly was in perfect condition as far as he could tell, except that it does lose oil. I told the buyer to have the oil topped off often. It was shipped from California to Florida. The shipper sent a tow truck driver who drove it up onto the tow truck, and commented on how nicely it runs, and my brother is a mechanic and says that it sounded really good and certainly wasn't making any kind of knocking sound that would suggest it was about to throw a rod. The buyer received the car 5 days after signing the bill of sale and 12 days after the Ebay auction ended. He claims that after driving 5 miles on the day he received the car, the engine threw a rod and now the engine has to be replaced. He is making a claim through PayPal to have the entire purchase price of $4500 refunded, while keeping the car and title, lol! I do feel terrible if that really happened, but honestly I've had a weird feeling about this transaction all along. He insisted on paying via PayPal so he would be protected if anything was wrong, but didn't want to use escrow.com. It's a Chevy 304 V8 engine. I have a feeling he is either lying or it had no oil. It certainly will not cost anywhere near $4500 to replace. My brother said he could get a used engine in good condition for $100 or a rebuilt engine for $350. I would like to be able to show Paypal and Ebay the specific laws that show that I am not liable if possible. thanks for your help! Just wanted to add that the buyer has not shown any proof that it broke down, no quote from a mechanic, didn't even contact me directly.. just filed for a full refund through Paypal saying "item was not as described" because I described it as "running beautifully"  more

Voting Question: Thinking about buying a 2003 Jeep Liberty but has quite a few miles?

I am desperate for a car!!!! I keep passing this Jeep Liberty that is for sale in front of this house so I finally stopped to get the details. The inside and outside look very new! Its a 2003 Jeep Liberty Automatic 4 Cylinder. I guess the only bad thing is it has 127,000 miles on it. They are asking 5200 but they are willing to go lower. I was thinking of asking for 4200 or 4000. However, my stepdad says its a bad buy because of the high miles and the 4 cylinder thing. I need a car though and this one looks really nice and I know sometimes cars last longer than others. I have a lot of other people saying don't get any jeeps because jeeps are a bad car maker. I really need a car and this seems to be in my price range and its nice. I just would like to hear different opinions on the matter. Maybe they are right but, I still want to hear a few more opinions on it.  more

Resolved Question: What is a 2004 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon worth?

I'm going to look at a 2004 jeep wrangler rubicon that has 58,466 miles on it and is in excellent condition. It is a electric lime green one that has a manual transmission. It is for sale at a local subaru and kia dealer. They are asking $16,200 for it. I live in West Virginia so a rubicon would come in handy. I was going to try to talk them down to $12,500 and it is booked at $15,000. What would you try to get them to considering i can get a new 2009 jeep wrangler x for $18,876.  more

Resolved Question: Kids and Power Wheels--worth it?

I posted this in toys, but only got one answer so far, so this is a repost so maybe more parents will see it. My boys have a Wild Thing, and a VW bug....both of these can only hold one and the buy is not only really unattractive (it was second hand), but it's battery doesn't keep a charge very long, and it's really hard to turn. Both of these only hold one kid (I have 2 boys very close in age) and both can only go on a smooth surface (concrete). So I was thinking about buying a Jeep, Truck, Gator etc. something that can go on the yard, it just scares me to let them only be able to play with these things on the front driveway/sidewalk. My question is, are they worth the money? I haven't been able to find one through Craigslist or at a garage sale, so I'm thinking now my only option is going to be just to buy one at the store, and pay full price for it. Buying a toy that is nearly 300 seems like a pretty big decision, so I'm trying to find out as much about these as I can before I buy one. Do you recommend them? Are do they hold up well? What age do they outgrow them? We have no swing set/play equipment in the backyard, just a kiddie pool, and a sand box, so there's a lot of room. Essentially are these worth the money? Also, any other place/store I could get one cheaper (I've also been to a few flea markets, which is where I got the Wild Thing). My kids each have a trike (their own) and we (my husband and I) have very nice bikes and we all go for bike rides in the evening, so I know they're getting their exercise (they're very active), I'm just looking for something for the backyard where the trikes don't work. However, I've heard of Big Wheels (from the 60's I guess), does anyone know if they will work on the grass/uneven ground of the backyard? Nina, didi you pay full price for all those? Or were you able to find them at a discount place or secondhand?  more

Resolved Question: How much would a 1982 Jeep Wrangler cost?

My boyfriend is wanting a car (preferably a Jeep Wrangler) and my mom and I accidentally came across one while we were going from dealership to dealership. It was just sitting in front of someone's house for sale and all it said was the year. (We figured they can't afford a phone or something, so we'll have to knock on their door to ask). My mom wants me to take my boyfriend and his brother out there to look at it and ask about it (in case the people are scary..lol). But before we go all the way out there to ask, does anyone have any idea how much it would cost, considering the internal workings are all decent? The exterior looks nice except it needs new tires and the interior looks good, kinda vintage, which is cool. 1982 red-orange Jeep Wrangler  more

Resolved Question: wat do u think of this story?

ok so my friend wrote this awesome story and i want to know your opinion ok You were working one day at this old run down cafe you were walking out because your shift was over you were walking to your car. As you were driving home your car sputtered to a halt you called your neighbor to come pick you up the tow truck arrives and out of one side a really preppy guy hops out you know him its....Jason the captain of the football team. "GOD ____ CANT YOU TAKE CARE OF A CAR!!" "not my fault my friend said he would help but he moved" "I don't care just grab the chain" As you grab the rusty chain it cuts your hand you run into the truck to the first-aid kit after you cleaned the cut Jason hopped in and told you he would take you home. You thought this was different he hated you but that mood came back when he really kicked you out of cab of the truck and drove off laughing you had fallen funny and you eared a crunch you were sure you had broken your wrist luckily your friend was there about to curse you out for calling and not showing up but when she saw you she helped you into her car and drove you to the ER. There you had to sit on one of their creepy hospital beds to wait for the X-Ray you put your head down when they sat somebody next to you. You looked over your shoulder it was a hot emo guy getting stitches on his arm and forehead you sat up and sat facing him, he blushed and sort of moved to angle himself towards you. "So what happened to you?" "I got pushed out of a car and broke my arm, you?" "I was riding my board fell off the ramp and got my arm caught in the ramp and it.... well you can see." As you were just about to ask him what his name was they came back with your X-Ray, it was broken BAD they were going to get a type of splint under the cast but it was going to be PAINFUL to put on you wished your friend had stayed but she left you they took you into the back and put you in a creepy room you guessed sound proof. Right as they were prepping you he walked in and held your hand with his good arm. "The names Sam" "____" "Pretty name but this is not going to be pretty squeeze if it get to be to much pain" Right then they started putting it on instead of hurting you new friend Sam you screamed but he covered your mouth with his and squeezed your hand a little you squeezed his hand back until it was done you got a lime green cast they made James leave while they wrapped your wrist. You were sure he had left as you were walking out all you could think of was that kiss how wonderful it was. You were outside now when a Black Jeep was parked in front of you it was his he had the door opened and patted the seat for you to sit down. "How did you know I was going to scream? "I have had the same break before" "Oh I am.....glad you were there" "Well......nobody as pretty as you should ever be in pain so I thought I would dull the pain" "Well it worked." You turned to kiss his cheek he turned to kiss your cheek your lips met with sparks, no not sparks FIREWORKS. He told you he would drive you home if you told him where to go, when he stopped in front of your house he reached in front of you and grabbed a sharpie and wrote his # on your cast. You kissed his cheek and grabbed the sharpie from him and wrote your # on his arm. He walked you to your doorstep and kissed you again you walked inside and looked back he was walking backwards to his car while blowing kisses at you you pretended to catch them. You knew it was cheesy but you was the keeper of your heart now, you did not care how silly he acted. He stopped and got into his car a pulled something out then you heard your phone go off you opened it he was calling you. "I miss you, I love you" "Sam we just met Love is a strong word" "Oh yeah I forgot go and look at your second grade class picture." You looked. "Okay now look next to you the little boy holding your hand." You dropped the picture it was...... your Sam from secong grade til 8th grade when he moved you cried for weeks because he was your first kiss, your first love. You ran outside and hugged him. "Your back!" "Forever honey and I am never leaving" He pointed to the house two doors down that had been for sale that now was sold you kissed him for what seemed to be forever. He was yours forever he grabbed your left and and put a ring on the ring finger it said "be my forever". "Its not a wedding ring its a forever ring because I want you to be mine till the day the sun burns out" "I would love that" The rest of your life is up to you!  more

Resolved Question: How realistic is Kelley Blue book about car pricing?

Im going to put my 1999 jeep cherokee sport 4x4 up for sale and blue book is telling me it's only worth about $3,700. I've never seen a 4x4 cherokee newer than '95 priced under $4,000 around here and my neighbor just sold his '99 2 wheel drive cherokee for about $3,900. Sure it doesn't get the greatest gas milage so that might effect the price. But, how do I find a realistic price range that I should set for it. I just can't believe it's only worth $3,700.  more
