Open Question: A computer question in R&S?

I will admit that there are some extremely intelligent folks here in this section, so possibly you may be able to help. Is there a way to boost the signal of a Walmart bought wireless adapter? I have a Netgear RangeMax Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter which I use to pull a signal from my brother next door (about 100 yards away) with his full permission. He has a router, but often my adapter becomes unable to "connect". Is there a way to boost the signal at all, or is there perhaps a better route to go in receiving his signal? God Bless, and thank you all in advance for your answers.  more

Open Question: How can I get Windows to manage my Wireless network? It worked fine for months and now it's flakey. I tried?

To re-install it but now it says that I've enabled a different program to manage it...which I have no idea how it happened or what new program is. I'm using a Dell desktop 2400 and Windows XP Home Edition, Version 5.1; Service Pack 3 Wireless-G USB Adapter (WUSB54-GC) I was able to re-install it and it says it's active, but I get messages like, "Cannot associate with the Access Point" and "You have enabled a new program to manage your network" Linksys Not Connected, Firewalled. I'm so confused. Can someone please help me find a way to get Windows to just manage my wireless network again? That's all I want.  more

Open Question: Why is my Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter doing this? It was working fine for months and now it won't connect?

to the internet. I uninstalled it and tried to re-install the same adapter unit and software disk, but it stopped installation and gave a warning that the software could be harmful immediately or in the near future to my PC. It says that I should contact the software vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing. What's going on here? I've had the stuff for 4 months. Am I getting ripped offed? Are they just trying to get me to buy another unit?  more

Open Question: What's the easiest way to add wireless connectivity to a Mac?

I'm a PC guy but my office has mostly Mac computers. They are older Macs that did not come equipped with any wireless capabilities. I recently switched ISPs and they installed a wireless modem. I can connect the Macs through a hardline connection if I have to, but I'm interested in upgrading the Macs to make them wireless. I don't know much about Macs and I'm confused about the easiest way to do this. I'm confused about all this "airport" stuff. Open Question: Can someone identify this computer virus?

Hi, a few days ago I had a system freeze on one of my computers.(A Dell Dimension E510). When I rebooted everything was fine for a few seconds then my wireless adapter stopped responding and when I tried to unplug it and plug it back in it flicked on for a few seconds then shutoff. Now this happens with any usb device I try to introduce after start up. Additionally when I try to run a virus scan on most programs (Kasperskys, malwarebytes) they freeze before completion. I booted into safe mode and tried running malwarebytes again and came up with 1 virus under the name lsass.exe recognized as a trojan. I let malwarebytes quarantine and fix it but the problem persists. The most puzzling aspect is that even though I had an lsass spoof trojan the computer isn't infected with a sasser or mydoom as there isn't a duplicated lsass process or corresponding duped registry key. (Note it's not an isass either). If anyone can provide any help it'd be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!  more

Open Question: I'm looking for a Wireless USB adapter the works with ubuntu 9.04.?

Open Question: My D-Link USB internet adapter no longer connects with the default network?

I am not that computer savvy, but I have a wireless USB adapter that normally would show me several networks that I can connect to. I use a PC, but have an apple airport router that I try to connect to, but can't ever acquire the network address. I tried to repair this, but my computer can never renew my IP address. Due to this, I always just connected to the default network, but now it no longer appears when I refresh my network list. If anyone knows how to fix either, connect to the apple router wirelessly or have the default network show up again, I would be really happy. Also with the apple router it has nothing to do with the WEP key because I have the correct password. Thanks  more

Open Question: WiFi vs Wireless USB Adapter for internet?

I've just bought a laptop...and it came with An Atheros WiFi adapter (I'm assuming this is the G card the rep told me about)....And i also have an Airlink 150N USB Adapter from a previous (and old) computer. The Airlink router is hooked up to another XP computer (main one in the house), but I'm having trouble using the USB Adapter on my Vista laptop (it keeps telling me to connect the adapter when its already inserted, and when i take it out, the Airlink101 Monitor goes away on the screen, so I kno the driver is installed correctly). IF ANYONE CAN HELP WITH THIS ISSUE I'D GREATLY APPRECIATE IT :) Anyway, i can connect to the internet just fine using a Wifi connection... only thing is, when i use the internet on my Ipod Touch with Wifi, it drops connection about every 30 mins for about 3 minutes (very annoying) and i don't know if it will do the same with the laptop. Can Anyone Help? Would i constantly lose connection on my laptop like i do on my Ipod or should I just keep trying to get the USB adapter to work?  more

Just to explain to say time, I have a fresh install from my original vista 64bit (not pirated), All bios have been updated as of yesterday, All driver files have also been updated. I use a cosair 620watt multi rail power sypply My graphics card never reach more than 40degrees C I have 4 fans running with great air flow everything except on dvd drive runs on sata II This is the second MB and CPU I have installed, before I was using a gigabyte ep35 and a q6600 running 4gb When I run a game like crysis warhead I get 20-30 mins and then my graphics card recovers. Could it be agraphics card problem? or is it possible that I have a damaged vista file? after I had loaded the fresh install for the first time, I got the BSOD the the computer would restart and I would choose the option to start windows normally. Any ideas? About the dvd stuff only one DVD runs on IDE About the dvd stuff only one DVD runs on IDE Alright guys, I am going to put a 1000w Power supply in tomorrow and I'll let you know how it fairs. If that doesn't work then I load the microsoft drivers and then let you know. Ok guys. I exchanged my psu 620w for a 1000w psu Corsair and used the windows 7 rc1 OS. I am now able to play and use the system for about twice as log but I still get freezees. So I think I should dump the 9800 and get a diffrent card. but for now I'm going to drop back to vista 32bit and its going to SUX any opinions??  more

Resolved Question: Xbox 360 live problem?

Hi there, I am having a problem connecting to the Xbox live. I bought a wireless adapter and hooked it onto the back of the 360. Then I tried testing a connection and connecting to a wireless network and needed a password to do so. I didn't know it as well as anyone in my family so we tried calling someone at Cisco(company which gave us our router) who helped us create a new network and password. We tried that, didn't work so he said to just call Xbox and call them back later. It was such a hassle. I also remember the option of 'windows connect now' which was using a USB key or something but i couldn't follow those directions because i only found the ones for windows xp (i have vista) so the same directions did not work on my computer. Can anyone here please help me out? What's going on? Perhaps maybe I should use the windows connect now but no one has directions. If it helps, my computer is located away from the Xbox on a floor above. My router is close to the computer. I have an ethernet cable but didn't think I'd need it with the wireless adapter and besides, there's nowhere else I can connect the ethernet cable.  more

Voting Question: How to make XBOX 360 recognize official Wireless Network Adapter?

We just bought a new XBOX 360, along with the official Wireless Network Adapter. XBOX works fine. We have plugged the Adapter on the XBOX's USB port, and it shows a Red non-blinking light. However.. when doing the "Test Xbox Live Connection", we get: Network Adapter = Disconnected (and we cannot proceed with the tests). Also, on "Edit Settings", there is no "Wireless Mode" section. What could be the problem? Thank you so much!!! thats the problem the scan for networks box simply is not there  more
